PCR is a direct diagnostic test for COVID 19, which allows the detection and amplification of a fragment of genetic material – which in the case of coronavirus is an RNA molecule – from a sample taken from the patient’s respiratory secretions.
The intended use of the test is to facilitate the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection in combination with clinical and epidemiological risk factors.

- Be at the sampling location at the agreed time.
- Do not arrive more than 5 minutes before the appointment

- The results are sent in a valid travel certificate in English/Spanish
- The result will be issued within approximately 2 hours after the sample is taken.
- *The results may be slightly delayed due to high demand and for reasons beyond the control of Instituto Médico Madrid.
- The extraction is carried out by qualified health personnel in approved centres.
- All positive cases are notified to the health authorities as established by the Ministry of Health.
- If you have tested positive, you should go to your assigned health centre.
